What it is

Perched on Onehunga Bay Lagoon, Rixen NZ is Auckland's only cable wakeboarding park. The two-tower Little Bro Cable system pulls riders across the water using an overhead cable, and four purpose-built obstacles let riders progress at their own pace — whether that means clinging on for a first lap or launching off a kicker with some confidence.

One-to-one tuition is available for riders at any level, and all equipment is provided on site, so families turn up empty-handed and get straight to it. The Splash Camp school holiday programme offers a more structured way in for kids wanting to build real skills over several sessions.

The lagoon setting keeps things sheltered, and the obstacle course gives older children and teenagers something to genuinely work towards. Note that the park closes after very heavy rain to allow the lagoon to flush with the tides.

Awesome fun! We shared an hour for $40 each for the two of us. They gave us great advice and within the hour we were both wakeboarding. So many friendly people who are requlars that don't work there who are very helpful. Want to have fun and learn to wakeboard....then this is the place! Thanks Rixen we well be back for a second lesson.

What an awesome experience! Dealing with the team at Rixen in Onehunga was great. I had never had the chance to ride cable and the whole crew was very inviting. Would be an epic idea for any stag do or office event! Will be heading back very soon.

Oh yes!!! This is the onehunga doggie park!!!! BEST DOGGIE PARK EVER! 🤣 my baby loves it here! He gets to interact with other dogs... The walk is so nice! You can walk over the bridge and end up on the other side of the motorway, which leads to another beach like area... Great for dogs and families! 10/10 😁💖

There isn't a building when you get here, just a jetty and the wake park. Pre-book a session online before arriving.Each session is 15 minutes. I'm just a beginner so I spent most of the time trying to stay on the board and not sink while turning around. There are ramps and jumps but that requires a different board (which you pick when you book). You will need to fill in a form your first time here. Just head to the person on the jetty and they will fill you in on what you need to do. You do need to do a beginners course if it's your first time doing it which is more expensive than a single session alone. It looks like gear including the board, helmet and life jacket are all included. Quite an interesting hobby. The worse part is your arms dying after the session making driving and work the following day really hard.
