What it is
Tucked into park-like surrounds in Birkenhead, this leisure centre gives families a rare breadth of active pursuits under one roof and across its grounds. Kids can clamber up a 10-metre top-rope wall with 40 different climbs, tackle the 3-metre bouldering section without a harness, or work their way up a battle rope — all with free instruction for beginners and equipment available to hire. The outdoor Osborne Pool, heated to 28°C and spanning 33.3 metres, sits down a ramped pathway from the main building and is accessible by hoist.
Beyond the water and the rock wall, there is a high ropes course, a gym with a tyre-flipping challenge, a skate park, and a pump track — enough variety to send everyone home happily worn out. A shallower learners' pool, kept at 32°C, suits younger or less confident swimmers.
Children aged 16 and under swim free at all Auckland Council pools, making the outdoor pool an easy default for a North Shore family afternoon. The climbing gym requires a completed Disclosure of Risk form, which can be filled in on arrival.
What other parents say
A couple weeks ago, I had come down to check out the gym as I was considering joining up. However, when I spoke to the blonde female and brown haired female at the desk and asked to view the gym I was told no, I am not allowed. No explanation, just no, and the brown haired female said “I am the manager”. I asked, I’m thinking about joining and want to have a look at the equipment, to which I was told “no, you can look through the window but you can’t go in”, again this was from the female who claimed to be the manager. Well, I then had a look through the window, but couldn’t find out the information I wanted to know from looking. So, I asked the manager about the equipment specifications and questions about what’s available etc as I couldn’t see from the window. The manager didn’t know…….. hmmmmmm seems like it would have been simple to let me go into the gym and have a look myself aye. Odd experience, and yeah, I did not join the gym and have suggested to other people I know, that they not waste there time here.
Great little pool with plenty of parking. The kids pool is 0.85m and inside, so if you burn easily - no need to worry. If your supervising and swimming with up to two small kids, then you can get the $9 x10 times pass. What a bargain!

Great place to swim and gym. My only negatives are it can be very cold in the gym in winter (they need a climate control system) and a sauna (wet or dry) for recovery, would be a sound investment.
Always clean pool and don't let you swim until they try the pool's usability, hardworking and gentle staff and a smiling face, We love coming to this pool.
The way that the staff do things here is exceptional! My son and I do learn to swim and our instructor is just delightful. She was perfect with my son, Caleb. Her name is Shayla and I definitely would recommend her.
