What it is

Albany Stadium Pool is an Auckland Council facility built firmly around family fun in the water. The centrepiece is the leisure pool, where kids can scramble across an over-the-pool rock wall, fire water cannons, bounce on inflatables, and spill into the splash pad — a non-slip water play area loaded with interactive features. A warm toddler pool (31°C) and a 20-metre programmes pool round out the water offer, while a 39°C adult spa gives grown-ups somewhere to decompress while younger swimmers tire themselves out.

Accessibility is taken seriously here: the leisure pool has ramp entry, water wheelchairs are available, and a hoist provides spa access. An accessible changing room sits on the ground floor, with lift access to the fitness centre.

The centre also has a gym, small group fitness classes, and a café at reception. Children and young people aged 16 and under have free access to all Auckland Council pools, making this one of the more wallet-friendly ways to send the whole family home happily worn out.

Really great place – happy to come back again and again. The staff are genuinely amazing! The reception team are always friendly and helpful. The facility itself is excellent, with a sauna, spa pool, adult pool, kids pool, toddler area, and a lane pool for swimming. One helpful tip – the last kids session finishes at 7pm, so if you want a quieter swim with adults only, go after 7. Also, it’s worth calling ahead before you go, as even if it shows as open, unexpected situations can sometimes happen. Highly recommend.

First visit and was great sure we had to wait to get in but was great not crowded and not over powering of chlorine like some pool places. The kids loved it and want to visit again which we will definitely do. I got some water wings for grandson one had a hole in it and staff were fantastic and replaced the wings. The cafe staff simply wonderful and so helpful.

Nice place to take the kids for a swim. The pool has a fun water feature with a kids’ slide, and there’s a small café for snacks. Lockers are available for just $2. Plenty of toilets and changing rooms. There’s also a rock climbing wall, spa, and sauna. The spa was packed with older people, so there wasn’t much space to sit.

I don’t usually leave reviews with the intention of asking for improvements, but I felt this was worth mentioning. I really like this facility overall. The gym is clean, well-organised, and has a calm atmosphere where people mind their own business. The pool area is very family-oriented, which I think is great. I also appreciate the diversity here — as an Asian, it feels comfortable and reminds me of home. However, there is one major issue that I can’t overlook. The programme pool is often very disorganised. Faster swimmers use the slow lane, while slower swimmers use the fast lane. I understand that people can make mistakes, but the problem is that staff don’t seem to intervene or guide swimmers. As a result, I’ve had multiple collisions, and this has been happening for years without improvement. Eventually, it became frustrating enough that I had to leave. It’s a real shame because this is otherwise a great facility. I hope the staff can address this issue and work together to make it one of the best facilities in Auckland.

I haven’t explored all facility. However, the toddlers swiming pool/play pool is more than enough to give 5 stars. My kids love it
