Paint the Earth

Paint the Earth has spent 27 years earning its place as New Zealand's largest ceramics studio, and the formula is satisfyingly simple: pick a blank, paint it, fire it. With more than 250 individual ceramic shapes to choose from, children can spend a good while just deciding before the real fun begins.

The studio caters naturally to family visits, birthday gatherings, and school holiday sessions, and the staff are well practised at helping younger painters coax colour into something they'll want to keep forever. Hand and foot prints are a particular draw for families with babies and toddlers, producing the kind of keepsake that gets passed around at Christmas for years to come.

Pieces go into the kiln after the visit and are collected once fired — which means the outing has a satisfying second chapter when families return to see how the glazing has transformed their work. A genuinely hands-on creative experience with something tangible to show for it.
