Classy Crafts Market

Howick village keeps a weekly farmers' market at one end of Picton Street; at the other, on the fourth Saturday of each month, the Picton Centre hall fills with something quieter. Classy Crafts is an indoor craft market run by two local conveners, and most of the stallholders made the thing they are selling - hand-carved bone and pounamu, knitting, beadwork, needlework, fabric flowers, cards, soaps and Kiwiana gifts, alongside work by local authors and artists. It is a modest market rather than a day out in its own right, and that is much of its appeal: it is indoors, it is easy on small legs, and it slots into a Howick village morning without needing any planning. Children who like making things will find plenty to look at, and stallholders who are glad to explain how a piece was done.
