What it is

The artisan market is the Hibiscus Coast's makers' market. The rule for stallholders is that they must have made what they sell, which keeps out the imported-goods tables that pad out a general market and gives the hall a different character from the coast's other Sunday morning. Expect ceramics, textiles and woodwork, soap and candles, printed cards, jewellery and preserves, a good deal of it worked from recycled or upcycled material. It runs indoors on the last Sunday of most months, so it goes ahead whatever the weather is doing outside. For a family it is a browsing morning rather than an activity, but older children with any interest in making things get more from it than they expect, largely because they can ask the person who made the thing how it was done. There is coffee and something to eat on site.
