Orewa Surf Lessons

Orewa's long, gently shelving beach is one of the kinder places in Auckland to learn to surf, and this operator has been teaching on it for more than two decades. Families can take it two ways. Hire a board, a bodyboard and a wetsuit for a couple of hours and simply go, which suits anyone who already knows roughly what they are doing, or who has an older child content to muck about in the white water. Or book a two-hour group lesson, where instructors start everyone on the sand practising the pop-up before a wave comes into it; children from around six join the group sessions and younger ones are taken privately. Boards, wetsuits and rash vests are all provided. Lessons run year round, with wetsuits thick enough that a winter session is genuinely comfortable rather than something to endure.

My kids loved their time with Orewa Surf Lessons, it was love from the first sight 😊 All teachers are super stars at surfing and dealing with youngsters! charged my boys to try, enjoy and continue to learn! and it’s hard to beat orewa beach vibes and facilities. pic for a good laugh 🤭 #wannabesurfer

LOVE LOVE LOVE everything Aotearoa Surf has on offer. Our 9yr old is hooked on surfing now - a lot of credit has to go to the instructors who are incredible AND treat the kids like friends, equals… so much patience. I felt completely at ease with our son in the water under their care. Cant wait for term 4 to start. Thanks so much once again!

Such a great introduction into surfing for my 2 boys. The instructor from Indonesia (can't remember his name sorry) was incredibly kind and encouraging and handled all the mixed ages in the group like an absolute champ!
