Orewa Beach Farmers' Market

Orewa's Sunday market is a modest, unhurried affair, and that is much of its appeal. It sets up in Orewa Square on the highway, close enough to the water that families drift between the two, buying a bag of fruit and a coffee before heading down onto the sand for the rest of the morning. The stalls lean towards food: local growers with the week's vegetables, bakers, fish, honey and preserves, and a handful of hot food carts that make it a workable breakfast stop rather than only a shop. Plants and handmade goods turn up alongside. It is compact, so younger children are not walked off their feet, and there is room to sit while they eat. Nothing needs booking. The market runs every Sunday morning, year round, and rewards an early start, before the stalls begin to thin out.
