A walk only works with children if the distance is honest and there is something to look at. These are the short Auckland tracks that hold up — bush loops, coastal boardwalks and gardens where the walking is incidental to the exploring.

Where a track is buggy- or scooter-friendly we have said so. Auckland bush tracks are subject to kauri dieback controls, so expect cleaning stations at the entrances and occasional closures.
