About
Formed by a volcanic eruption tens of thousands of years ago, Onepoto Domain occupies a distinctive crater-shaped bowl with enough open space to swallow a large family gathering without anyone feeling crowded. Wide concrete paths and boardwalks loop around the domain, making much of it accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs, though a few sections — including a stepped boardwalk entrance and a sloped bridge — are worth checking in advance for those with mobility needs.
Two small freshwater lakes sit within the grounds, so parents will want to keep a close watch on little ones near the water's edge. A playground, barbecues, picnic tables, drinking fountains, and toilets with changing rooms mean families can arrive with nothing more than food and stay for hours.
The domain is well suited to sports, casual walks, and big group outings alike. The Onepoto Path traces a route around the whole domain for those who want a proper stretch of the legs.
