Great day trip destination from Auckland. The journey out here offers beautiful countryside scenery, leading up to a rugged, dramatic coastline. Climbing the lighthouse is free (donations welcome) and gives you a clear view of the Manukau Bar. The gravel road near the end requires a bit of care, but it's completely manageable. Excellent spot for photography.
A visit to Manukau Heads Lighthouse provides stunning views and the fun thing is, you can actually go inside the lighthouse, and it's free entry until 5pm. The lighthouse is about an hour and half drive from Auckland through some pretty countryside. And if you come in season, there's blueberry picking down the same road. A great day trip!

The surrounding views are simply breathtaking. How beautiful must the artist's imagination have been, when He painted the picture of this beautiful country into existence. The skies gave an amazing dash of color when mixed with the ocean and the green meadows. When you come here don't only explore the lighthouse but take your time to enjoy and absorb the beauty of nature
Stunnnnning views and beautifully maintained. Good parking and public restrooms etc but millions of little flies/midges at the top of lighthouse and view point meant we didn't stay looking at the views for very long sadly. We did have a lovely picnic at one the wooden tables at the base of the lighthouse.
Very fascinating, soo much rich history to learn about here, and absolutely drop dead gorgeous views. The site is very well maintained and is such a wonderful to visit. Very worthwhile trip!
