Tūpuna Maunga community planting days

Te Tātua a Riukuita / Big King hosts a community planting day, giving families the chance to spend a morning or afternoon putting native plants into the slopes of a tūpuna maunga — an ancestral mountain carrying deep significance for Tāmaki Makaurau.

The maunga team provides spades, sunscreen, water and light refreshments, so the barrier to joining in is low. Families should bring gardening gloves if they have them, wear covered shoes or boots, and dress for wet weather — the kind of practical outing that sends everyone home with muddy hands and a genuine sense of having done something worthwhile.
