What it is
Metrolanes sits right on Queen Street in central Auckland, making it one of the more accessible indoor options when the family needs a change of scene. Bowling is the main draw, with the kind of competitive lane-by-lane energy that tends to get even reluctant participants invested by the second frame.
The venue also offers a Strike and Putt combo that pairs bowling with mini-golf — a good way to stretch the outing and keep different ages engaged in the same visit.
Groups of twelve or more require a booking with a deposit; smaller groups can simply walk in. Card payment is the only option, so cash stays in the wallet. A bar is on site for the adults while the kids rack up spares.
What other parents say
Metrolanes is a fantastic destination for a memorable night out in the heart of Auckland CBD, offering a more refined and quiet atmosphere compared to typical bowling alleys. It is perfectly suited for date nights or a fun catch-up with friends, providing a stylish environment that feels both relaxed and entertaining. Beyond the bowling lanes, the venue features a variety of other activities to keep the energy going, including arcade games, a bar and dining area. Its central location on Queen Street makes it an incredibly convenient spot to escape the city bustle for some lighthearted competition.
We had a great time there but the lanes are not great and the pool tables are pretty dirty! No one was there when we went which was super nice and the bowling alley is in a unique building in the CBD. Some of the lanes will show music videos at the end which we enjoyed!

The most rundown bowling alley I have ever been two. Half the lanes were out of action when we arrived and the ones allocated to us were breaking down every 2-3 turns. At times you'd hit pins but not get any points registered, other times you wouldn't hit any pins yet the system would allocate you points. What's worse is the system would suddenly jam up in the middle of a turn requiring you to escalate the breakdown to management to reset and fix over and over again. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and for that I reward them two points, but for the facility itself, zero. Do better and invest money in the upkeep of your facility.
We had a fun time over all and the staff was very nice, but the tab beer was warm and we had 2 games in total but played on 3 different lanes because there were always problems they couldn't sort and played on 3 different lanes in the end. Pins not coming back and balls getting stuck. Also bathroom was out on handsoap.
Fun for the family. You get to pick your bowling balls from a rack as well. Shoes are included in the price for bowling. Wear socks. Drinks and food are well priced for larger groups. Theres also billiards and karaoke, and a 'mini' bowling area, I'm guessing for kids. The attendants are also very nice.
