What it is
Set within Matakana Country Park, E-Volt Racing puts families behind the wheel of EcoVolt GT electric go-karts — designed and manufactured in London with input from Formula 1 engineers. The karts reach speeds above 50km/h and come fitted with F1-style steering wheels, push-to-pass boost buttons, and smart displays showing lap times, race position, and session data.
There is a kart for most ages in the group. Junior karts cater for children aged five to eleven, adult karts are open to those twelve and over who stand at least 140cm tall, and tandem karts let a younger passenger ride along with a driver aged sixteen or above. Adjustable pedals mean smaller racers are properly fitted in.
The on-site leaderboard adds a competitive edge that keeps kids — and plenty of parents — angling for another lap. Bookings are recommended, and the venue also handles group events from birthday parties to larger gatherings.

Had a really fun time at E‑Volt Racing Matakana. The electric go-karts are awesome and the whole setup feels modern and well run. The staff were amazing — super friendly, welcoming, and great at explaining everything clearly. While you’re waiting, there are some cool little games to play like a golf wedge game and a cornhole setup, which is a nice touch and keeps things entertaining. The track itself is a lot of fun. The boost button on the straight adds a great adrenaline hit, and the over-bridge and under-bridge sections are a cool feature you don’t usually see on kart tracks. The only downside is that the track is fairly small, and there are some no-overtaking zones (like on the bridge), which can make it a bit less competitive if you get stuck behind someone. That said, it’s clearly designed with safety in mind and still delivers plenty of fun. Overall, it’s a great, safe track for a relaxed but exciting session with friends or family. Plenty of on-site parking as well. Would definitely come back
Awesome time down at E-volt racing for the FireFighters race-off (Matakana vs Warkworth) the staff where great, very professional and clear going over the safety for the pre and during racing. the course is so much fun and you can push the karts pretty hard if your confident at driving and we did push them hard😜. Would definitely recommend checking these guys out.

I had an awesome experience at E-Volt Racing Matakana and would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a fun day out. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and exciting, and everything was run professionally. The electric go-karts were seriously impressive—they accelerated incredibly fast, handled really well around the corners, and the F1-style push-to-pass boost button made every lap even more exciting. The track itself is a lot of fun, with plenty of twists, turns, and unique features that keep every race competitive and entertaining. The facility is clean, well organised, and it's obvious that a lot of effort has gone into creating an awesome racing experience. A huge shoutout to Bjorn, who absolutely made the experience even better. He was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with anything we needed. He explained everything clearly, made everyone feel comfortable before racing, and had a great attitude the entire time. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does and wants everyone to have the best experience possible. Customer service like that is hard to find these days, and it really stood out. Bjorn is honestly the GOAT. Overall, I'd easily give E-Volt Racing Matakana 5 out of 5 stars. Whether you're racing with friends, family, or just looking to beat your personal best, it's an amazing experience that's well worth it. I'll definitely be coming back again, and hopefully I'll get another chance to race with Bjorn there. Thanks for such an unforgettable day! PS. Bjorn is the pea to my pod 😍.
We travelled nearly two hours during the school holidays to bring our family to the EV go-kart track in Matakana, so it was very disappointing to have the experience end the way it did. When we arrived, it started raining. We were not asking for a refund—we simply requested a voucher so the two people who couldn’t race could come back another day when the weather was safe. Instead of receiving understanding and professional customer service, some of the younger staff were dismissive and came across as cheeky. One staff member insisted that driving in the rain was fine, but I wasn’t comfortable taking that risk. Wet conditions reduce grip, increase the chance of drifting into barriers, and can lead to damage. Before racing, customers are also warned that if a kart is damaged, they could be liable for up to $35,000, so it’s understandable that we chose not to drive in those conditions. What disappointed me most was the lack of professional management. Situations like this should be handled by an experienced manager who can make sensible customer-focused decisions, rather than leaving young staff to deal with complaints on their own. We weren’t looking for our money back—we simply wanted a fair solution in the form of a voucher. After travelling such a long distance, especially during the school holidays, we expected much better customer service. I hope management reviews how weather-related situations are handled and provides staff with better training so future customers have a more positive experience.
Great experience. Booked a last minute group outing and were accommodated at very short notice. Atahua and Danielle were friendly, efficient, and well organised. Karts work so much better than the petrol ones and it made for some real fun as a group. Definitely worth a visit.
