David Lange Playground

At the heart of David Lange Park sits a towering KOMPAN Giants play structure designed to evoke an active volcano rising from a lava field — a theme carried through the landscape's colourful rolling mounds, which children clamber over between sessions on the double flying fox, trampolines, and carousels. The design was shaped in collaboration with artist Clynt White of Wāhi Wairua and Te Ākitai Waiohua iwi, weaving local cultural narratives into the fabric of the space.

The playground takes inclusivity seriously: wheelchair-friendly carousel and trampoline, accessible swings, and accessible toilets mean the whole family can be in the mix. A fenced toddler area with interactive panels gives younger children their own corner, while Percussion Play music equipment adds another layer of discovery for any age.

Developed over five years with deep community consultation, this is a playground with real substance — one that sends everyone home happily worn out.
