What it is

Auckland New Ballet's first-ever season, Folklore, is a two-act ballet performance presented inside Holy Trinity Cathedral with live accompaniment by the Kulios Ensemble. The setting makes it genuinely up-close and intimate — a very different experience from a traditional theatre.

Act one, Tales of the Past, draws on classical repertoire with excerpts from Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Raymonda and more. Act two, Songs of Tomorrow, presents three new neoclassical works choreographed by and for the company's own dancers. Every performance ends with an on-stage Q&A, giving audiences a chance to put their ballet questions directly to the artists.

Families with sensory sensitivities will want to look at the Quiet Matinee — a dedicated performance with lower sound and lighting levels and open doors throughout, so children can move freely as needed.
