What it is
Tucked in the heart of Newmarket, Gilli Café is a rare find: a city café with a whole dedicated upstairs play space for little ones. While the kids dive into the toddler-friendly playground and ball pit, parents can settle in for excellent coffee and a menu spanning European, Asian fusion, vegetarian and vegan dishes — think croque madame, Italian bowls, Thai salads and Cajun burgers.
It's a relaxed, beautifully designed spot where families can actually enjoy a meal out. Just a 4-minute walk from Broadway Cinemas, with plenty to keep toddlers happy and grown-ups well-fed.

Great experience on a recent trip to Auckland—so nice, we visited twice for breakfast. Large dining area while remaining cozy—love the decor. I appreciated having some healthier items on the menu. Exploited were friendly. Thank you, Gilli Cafe!
While visiting New Zealand on vacation for a little over a week, I had the chance to enjoy breakfast at Gillis Cafe (143 Carlton Gore Road, Newmarket, Auckland 1023) & it was such a delightful experience. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with mushrooms, along with an extra side of hash browns and an iced mocha. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The dish not only tasted amazing but also looked beautifully presented on the plate. The poached eggs were perfectly done, the mushrooms added a rich savory touch & the hash browns were crispy and satisfying. The iced mocha was refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. The cafe itself has a cozy atmosphere with a calm, neutral color environment that makes it a relaxing place to start the day. It felt welcoming and comfortable, especially as a visitor exploring the area. Overall, I was truly pleased and delighted with my breakfast experience here. If you’re in Newmarket and looking for a tasty, comforting breakfast spot, Gillis Cafe is definitely worth a visit!

Incredible brunch spot! The flatwhite coffees are perfection, and both the Mince on Toast and Salmon Eggs Benedict were 10/10. Also huge space inside! Definitely worth a visit! :)
Best place to have desserts at late night in Newmarket. It's very suitable for the tribe of hanging out day and night; it matches Open Early and Close Late! The cafe is very big with kind of cozy attics at the upper level
Was nice food was good chicken Thai salad yummy but chicken was spicy and that wasn’t mentioned on menu was a little of putting but was ok The kids chicken nuggets were um not real chicken I’m pretty sure had a strange taste to them kids didn’t finish them one said no not nice sorry but being honest The potato wedges with cheese did you run out of cheese ??? These was a hidden smidge under the bacon which was kinda sad considering it says cheese on menu needs more cheese Your play area for kids was really good but seriouse question when was it last cleaned I mean when were the balls and other things taken out and cleared up ??? So many broken balls in there and there was a strange smell but the kids had fun and that’s what is the main thing. The claw machines were fun but waste of money they pick and drop pretty much straight away we did manage to get a couple of toys for kids spending $20 plus o couldn’t resist the cute Hello Kitty at $10 but honestly those machines were ruthless and money hungry lols …. Staff serving are so friendly and welcoming they do a great job My grandson loved the crispy noodles his favourite
