Ewelme Cottage

Nice place to visit. I walked over from DT Auckland. One of the oldest homes on a bigger parcel than most in the area, it's on a kind of a hilly side street with no parking to speak of. Plenty of street parking a couple of blocks over. I visited for a couple of hours on a Sunday morning in early November 2025. I was there a little bit early & was invited to walk the grounds before officially opening at 10:30AM. Great people running the place, even offered refreshments. I spent a couple of hours visiting & learning about some of the fascinating history of the place. As an American on vacation for the first time in New Zealand, I like going to the more off the beaten path stuff. And this fit the bill nicely. Also, as a English Heritage annual member, it's accepted here as well. I highly recommend visiting here, as well as the other two HNZPT sites in the area: Alberton (Mt. Albert) & Highwic Mansion (Newmarket). All three were built around the same time, but each with a completely different story.

It was closed when I visited. I looked around the outside of the property and it's a nice historic house. The backyard is peaceful with a lawn and large native bush area behind the gazebo. The house was recently renovated and repainted in the original colours from May to June 2026.
