Devonport

What it is

Sitting within the green surrounds of Mt Cambria Reserve, Devonport Museum holds the suburb's story in photographs, documents and objects spanning natural history, local landmarks, settlement, maritime life and transport. Displays of tools, toys and household effects give children something tangible to latch onto, while the depth of the archive makes it genuinely useful for anyone with a heritage research project on the go.

The museum is run by the Devonport Historical and Museum Society and operates as a public resource, with entry by koha. A research service is available for those digging deeper into local history.

The site is wheelchair accessible with ample car parking, and sits a short walk from Devonport village along the waterfront. It suits families who want a quieter, unhurried outing — the kind of place where a child might pick up a century-old tool and ask how it worked.

Quirky little museum with extremely informative, friendly & amazing caretakers. It's free entry & they rely on donation.

Cosy, informative, free. Great effort to save and promote the local history. Kids friendly, with some old-fashioned table games, a piano, and a typewriter 🙂

Lovely little museum with wonderful people who take care of everything. I had a lovely chat with Gail and she gave me a lot of information about the stunning history of Devonport. Also I got a lot of inspirations where to go next and find the most beautiful spots. Thank you Gail. It was a pleasure to meet you.

A great wee museum. We walked up from the waterfront. The museum is set in lovely grounds. The museum is a relocated church. It tells the story of Devonport.
