What it is

The New Zealand Maritime Museum is the setting for a pair of virtual reality experiences presented by the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust and the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust. Older children and adults can step inside Scott's Discovery Hut or journey to Stonington Island via A Frozen Night — two distinct windows into one of the world's most remote places.

Each VR experience runs for approximately 30 minutes, giving participants time to properly absorb the surroundings rather than just glimpse them. Both are recommended for ages 11 and over, making this a strong outing for families with secondary-school-aged children looking for something well beyond the ordinary museum visit.
