What it is

Tucked into Glen Eden in West Auckland, Vertical Adventures is an indoor rock climbing gym with over 30 uniquely themed walls. Kids can clamber across child-centred climbing areas designed to spark a love of the sport, while adults will find routes stretching from complete beginner all the way to seasoned crusher. Everyone goes through a short orientation before getting started, so first-timers are well looked after.

The gym works well for birthday parties, accommodating groups of five through to twenty or more kids, with several party packages to choose from. Regular events — competitions, themed climb nights — mean there is always something on the calendar for families who want to make it a regular outing.

The team is led by owner Darrin Worsfold, a climber of more than 25 years and a registered NZOIA instructor, so the coaching pedigree is solid. A good fit for families with school-age children ready to try something that sends everyone home happily worn out.

Great spot with several challenging climbs. Cool Lego displays and great coffee. Parking can be a bit of a shambles during climbing competitions. Restrooms were kept well cleaned.

Nice gym, with good set-up but the whole thing is really old. The holds are super used. Lots of space though and we had this huge gym for ourselves, there was no one. Good roofs for strength and some interesting routes.

Took the kids there on a wet weather day in the school holidays. It got busy enough for all 30 or so climbing walls to be in use but still never had to wait too long. Staff were friendly as ever. We love how the kids sleep after spending a couple of hours climbing.

Great fun for the kids! Lots of climbing options. Some staff could however work on their people skills. Overall still a great experience and holiday activity.

Great place to take the family to climb . It does get a bit busy during the school holidays , but the wait to climb is never too long . It builds real confidence in the young ones and they have fun along the way !
