Weekend Market

Glen Eden Community Markets

Glen Eden Community Markets run once a month, on the third Saturday, in the grounds of Glen Eden Community House. It is a car boot market at heart — fifteen to twenty-five stalls of second-hand finds, homemade goods and whatever neighbours have turned out of the garage — which makes it cheap to browse and easy to leave. A sausage sizzle run as a school fundraiser usually covers lunch.

What it is

What lifts it above a straightforward market is the effort put into the children's side. Face painting and arts and crafts are laid on, and through the warmer months there are water balloon fights in the grounds. Each month carries a theme celebrating a different part of the local community, so the stalls and food shift with it rather than repeating. Entry is free, the setting is open enough for younger children to move about, and it is small enough that a family can see the whole thing without a plan.

I really like all historic buildings it's very run down but you can smell the history the old kauri floorboards at one stage I think this would be a church if I'm not mistaken there is a plaque on the front that dates from 1914 to 1918 so well over 100-years-old now that is the time of the first world war

Great playgroup for my youngest (Pisces rd playgroup) is held here 3 days a week. Cool playground inside the gates for the littlies and a bigger one outside the gates for the big kids and a set of swings. I've been here for a kids birthday too and it was awesome. Kitchen for prep and space for the kids to play freely.

Friendly, accommodating staff. Just the basic rooms for use, parking, kitchen, toilet but clean and functional. I teach hand drumming there Fridays 10 - 11.30 am.

Polite and helpful office staff. Pleasant room for poetry meetings. Well ventilated with option to meet outside on deck, when appropriate. Possibly easier to bring your own hot drink during colder months. Clear instructions about cleaning table etc before leaving.

Adequate parking with a nice community space along with an outdoor patio and garden.
