What it is

Sculpture in the Gardens marks a decade of bringing ambitious outdoor art to Auckland Botanic Gardens, with 15 artists selected from across New Zealand creating works on a scale the curators describe as unlike anything the exhibition has seen before. A mix of established award-winners and emerging voices, the artists include returning crowd favourites alongside newcomers offering fresh perspectives.

The sculptures are designed to respond to the garden's landscape and living collections, gradually settling into the environment over summer. More than 370,000 people visited the 2024 edition, and the 10th anniversary promises to build on that with works described by curators Terry Urbahn, Olivia Haddon and Linda Tyler as ambitious and intriguing.

The exhibition is free and non-ticketed, making it an accessible outing for families wanting to wander the botanic gardens while encountering sculpture at every turn.
