What it is

Celebrate Matariki at the Howick Historical Village with this hands-on whakairo (carving) workshop led by carver and artist Calvin Devine (Ngāpuhi). Tamariki and their whānau will craft their own waka hourua (double-hulled canoe) while discovering how Māori navigators used the stars and traditional knowledge to voyage across the Pacific.

A wonderful opportunity to connect with Māori culture, history, and craftsmanship in an interactive and meaningful way. Parent supervision is required for children under 10, and spaces are limited so booking ahead is essential.
