What it is
Howick Historical Village brings spring to life with a Live Day fête centred on how families in the 1800s welcomed the warmer months. Children can churn fresh cream into butter, sit in on a Victorian school lesson, and hear from the village beekeeper about how bees stir back into action as the flowers bloom.
Food is a strong thread through the day: freshly baked bread from the bread oven, traditional fare from the Puhi Nui Homestead kitchen, and a sweet shop stocked with old-fashioned lollies and fudge. Morris dancers perform at two set times during the morning, the bagpipe band plays at midday, and a perfume workshop — added after popular demand from past events — rounds out the programme.
Hands-on games, crafts, and live demonstrations keep the pace lively from start to finish, making this a well-layered outing for families wanting more than a stroll around the village.
