Auckland Harbour Cruise

The harbour cruise leaves from the downtown terminal and loops out across the Waitematā for an hour and a half, passing under the harbour bridge, along the Devonport naval base and out towards Rangitoto before turning for home. Commentary runs throughout, covering the volcanic field the islands sit on, the working port and the city's long racing history, and there is open deck space for children who would rather watch the water than listen. It travels well across a wide range of ages: prams fit, there is seating and shelter when the wind gets up, and the boat is large enough that a restless toddler can move about without bothering anyone. For families new to Auckland it is a useful way to make sense of the shape of the place, and for those who have lived here for years it still reframes a coastline they only ever see from the road.

Booked a Fullers Reserve Package to Waiheke for lunch at the Waiheke Distillery for Maree's 70th birthday. Unfortunately we received notification a couple of days before that the Reserve Ferry service was cancelled and we had to catch the Walk-up ferry which was fine, and we were also offered a refund for a portion of the Waiheke Reserve ticket we booked, which was great!....still waiting for that to come through. However we had a great trip around the island on the Eastern Explorer and the driver Mike was hilarious and made for a most enjoyable trip. The lunch at the Waiheke Distillery was delicious and the location was amazing with absolutely stunning views across the Hauraki Gulf to Coromandel. The only downside to the day was being unable to board the 3pm ferry due to the huge amount of passengers heading back to Auckland and we had to hold our place in the queue for about an hour for the next ferry. We do however highly recommend the Eastern Explorer Trip and there are several stunning spots and stops around that side of Waiheke we would like to spend some time at - Man of War Bay, The Wineries, Stony Batter etc

Took ferry to Waiheke Island, pretty pricy round trip tickets (did not seem to have another option) but good experience. Top deck is so nice to get a good view of the Auckland skyline, does get windy. Boarding only begins about 10 minutes before departure but people line up much before to get a good seat. Ferry was on time.

The Auckland Harbour Cruise was such an enjoyable experience - did a last minute booking 15 minutes prior to departure and was very nice!! The views were stunning, the ride was relaxing, and the commentary made it even better. Nico’s explanations were clear, engaging, and incredibly helpful, especially for non-locals wanting to understand the history behind Auckland’s iconic harbour landmarks. Will do it again if I’m ever in the city just to relax and maybe score a spot up in the deck. ;)

Took the ferry across to Devonport and back on the Fullers boat. Fast, clean and efficient service which gives you a super view of the Auckland skyline. Worth taking the boat for that alone but well worth spending time in Devonport too.
