What it is
The bilum is a handmade string bag woven by hand in Papua New Guinea, carrying deep cultural meaning, identity and tradition. In this craft session, children explore what makes the bilum significant before getting hands-on themselves.
Using cardboard and colourful string, kids create their own mini bilum inspired by traditional patterns and weaving techniques — a tangible, take-home connection to Papua New Guinean culture.
