What it is
This craft activity invites kids to explore Papua New Guinea through making, focusing on the Kumul — the Raggiana bird-of-paradise — one of the country's most recognisable national symbols and a central image on the Papua New Guinean flag.
Using simple craft materials, children create their own colourful Kumul while picking up a little of the story behind the bird's cultural and national significance. It's a tidy combination of hands-on making and gentle learning about another country's heritage and wildlife.
