What it is
MOTAT's LIVE Day: Trams is one of the museum's most popular events, built around its impressive collection of meticulously restored operational trams. The fleet includes Tram 47 — the double-decker affectionately known as 'Big Ben' — the rare steam-powered Tram 100, and several Australian and New Zealand heritage electric trams.
Children can make their own model of Tram 47 or Tram 100 in the make-and-take, have a go at the Trolley Pole Experience, and collect stamps on a Tram Tracker card to log every ride across the day. Steam trains also run between Sir Keith Park and Waitītiko Station for those who want to keep moving.
Away from the trams, the day fills out with Live Day classics: the Lollyman, backyard games, the Print Shop, Schoolhouse lessons, and live music. Included in general admission, it is a full day at the museum for families who love things that move.
