Auckland Zoo

What it is

Roar into prehistoric times at Auckland Zoo's Dinosaur Discovery Track! Set in the Zoo's former elephant habitat, this larger-than-life walk-through experience features 20 animatronic dinosaurs that move, roar, and yes — some even spit water!

Kids will come face-to-face with 15 incredible species spanning the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, including the feathered Utahraptor, the towering Brachiosaurus, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex with babies in tow. It's equal parts thrilling and educational, with clever links drawn between these ancient creatures and the animals the Zoo cares for and conserves today.

A brilliant outing for curious little minds — expect wide eyes, big roars, and plenty of "again, again!"

It was a very fun experience. One gets to see various of animals, to actual view them through pupil sights. I've seen new animals I barely have in my country, but to see new species unknown in my homeland is fantastic. To learn the wildlife and to experience a travel and tour throughout and within the Auckland Zoo is uniquely a special adventure. Everyone is welcome to such a place. This is a place where we appreciate nature in itself. The evolution of animals tends to change overtime, where these species evolution converts rapidly. As in the ancient era, animals were built in strong and larger build, and as to now, their build has become smaller. This is uniquely profound to witness God's creation by sight. It is thanks to God, we have receive the vision to see His pleasing creation, so unique and pure.

Such a relaxing and enjoyable day out. The zoo has a great atmosphere, plenty of shaded areas, and lots of interesting exhibits. Whether you're an animal lover, a photographer, or just looking for something different to do, this place is well worth a visit.

The zoo has greatly from ten years away(lol). Scenery and decor greatly improved and animals in general feel less stressed. The cafe also felt great, paying parking can only be done by phone as most things in Aotearoa nowadays.

For its price its decent... the main issue was that all the animal enclosures were so spacious and unkempt that most animals were either invisible, hiding, sleeping, under bushes, inside a tree, or just too dark to see. It was like trying to play find Waldo every enclosure. Prepare to be distraught if you expect to see the red pandas, kiwi birds, or the big cats... maybe its a marketing strategy to get people to come back?

It was me and my son's first time in there and we enjoyed every bit of it. It was a nice day, managed to park easily and went for a good stroll through Western springs park towards the zoo. It's good to book online to avoid queues. You really have to allow a good 4 hours to appreciate the place at a good pace with kids/babies. Better yet, allow a whole day to appreciate both the zoo and Western springs park, which has got a lake with different birds roaming freely and an outdoor playground situated close to the zoo. Hubby visited for the first time in 15 years and noted a lot of improvements since so his boring visit turned into an exciting one.
