What it is
Takapuna's vibrant Matariki Mākete fills Waiwharariki ANZAC Square and Hurstmere Road with the very best of Māori culture. Browse stunning mahi toi from a collective of Māori artists — including pounamu, ceramics and harakeke raranga (flax weaving) — and watch traditional wood carver and sculptor Uenuku Hawira demonstrate his craft live.
The whole whānau can sample traditional Māori kai, enjoy live waiata performed by local North Shore musician Maranda, and take part in free workshops where you can try weaving yourself or discover the story behind each Matariki star. Best of all, it's completely free to attend.
