Sheepworld
Sheepworld is a working farm park where families can explore at their own pace, hand-feeding sheep, alpacas, goats and chickens along the way. The headline act is the live shearing demonstration — kids watch closely as a shearer works through a fleece and learns where New Zealand wool comes from. Among the resident animals are Swiss Valais Blacknose sheep, a breed that tends to stop children in their tracks.

Sheepworld is owned by a charitable trust, Springboard, which supports local young people — so every visit contributes directly to community programmes. A campground on the property makes it an option for families wanting to stretch the day into an overnight stay.

We had a really great time at Sheepworld. It’s a fantastic place for all ages and a wonderful experience at any time of the year, especially during summer. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with plenty to see and do. The animals are well cared for, and the farm experience is both fun and educational. Walking around the grounds was enjoyable, and there’s lots of space to explore at your own pace. Overall, it’s a great spot to visit, whether you’re with family, friends, or just looking for something different to do. Highly recommended.

I’ve visited Matakana Market many times, but I only just discovered that this place was nearby. I’m so happy to have found it, even if it’s a bit late! Unlike other places, the animals here seemed quite unique, which made it even more exciting for the kids. There’s also a well-designed playground where children can have lots of fun. The parking area is spacious and convenient as well. We’re planning to visit again soon. Although it’s a bit far from Auckland, it’s definitely somewhere we’d love to go often. I hope more people get to know about this wonderful place.
We really enjoyed SheepWorld! My daughter is 19 and was studying abroad in NZ and her school group went for the day. She loved it and suggested we go when we came to visit her. We (3 adults: 46,47,24) had a great time! The animals were all sweet, the staff was very pleasant and the little piggy Truffles was adorable! We we would definitely come again, the sheep shearing show and bottle feeding was extra cute!
We had a lovely Matariki visit! A special thank you to the wonderful lady at the counter who kindly checked on my elderly father after noticing he was tired from walking around the farm. Her genuine care meant a lot to us. Kudos to the entire crew for your warm hospitality and making our short trip so enjoyable! Posting these 2 cute piggies! 🐷🐷
