Pleasant Valley Blueberries

What it is

A family blueberry orchard on the Awhitu peninsula where you are handed a bucket and sent into the netted rows to fill it yourself, paying for what you pick. The bushes are grown at a height that suits children, the ground between the rows is flat, and the whole plot sits under bird netting, which makes it an unusually contained place to let small ones loose. The berries ripen in waves through the season, so a run of bushes that has just come on will be heavy with fruit while the next is still green — the family will point you to the good rows. The other half of the outing is the homemade blueberry ice cream sold at the shed, which most visitors treat as the reward. It opens for the summer picking season, roughly from Auckland Anniversary weekend through to March, and it is a long enough drive to be worth checking they are open before setting out.

We had the most wonderful experience at Blueberry Country Farm! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. The farm is very well maintained — rows of lush blueberry bushes, fresh country air. The blueberries were incredibly fresh, sweet, and bursting with flavour. You can really taste the difference when they’re picked straight from the farm! It was such a fun experience picking our own fruit, and everything was well organised and easy. The staff were friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome. It’s such a lovely place to visit with family — wholesome, enjoyable, and a great outdoor activity. The only thing we missed this time was the café selection from previous years. We still remember how amazing the blueberry tart was last year — it was honestly one of the highlights of our visit! While the fresh fruit ice creams are refreshing and tasty, we do hope the baked blueberry treats might return in the future because they were truly special.

Blueberry Country Farm is a wonderful place to visit in New Zealand. The farm is well maintained, with a peaceful rural atmosphere and beautifully kept blueberry fields. The berries are fresh, delicious, and clearly well cared for, reflecting the quality and effort put into the farm. The staff are friendly and welcoming, making the experience enjoyable from start to finish. It is an excellent spot for families and anyone looking to enjoy fresh produce in a relaxed setting. I travelled 40 minutes to Blueberry Country Ngatea today and picked 16 kg in 2 hours then relaxed with a blueberry icecream. Staff were friendly and helpful and picking was so easy, berries were in clusters and so sweet. Highly recommended and very satisfying to pick your own fruit. Most have gone into the freezer to enjoy throughout the year

It was nice experience with family for Blueberry picking and then eating Blueberries ice cream. Price was also firm to buy $16 per KG and each adult need to buy at least 500gm and no entry fees. Below 12 years of kids were free to go.

This place is near Auckland, located in Ngatea about 10 minutes from Thames. It’s easily accessible and offers plenty of parking. They also have ice cream available inside. For first-timers, be mindful of the large bucket they provide. The price is $14.50 per kilogram during our visit and if you get carried away and fill the bucket, it can cost around $80–$100. Plus, whatever you pick, you have to take it all home. Overall, we had a great time, although the price was a bit steep. Unlike the strawberry farm, they simply give you a bucket and let you fill it up—no surprises at the counter. Compared to the blueberry farm, you’re more aware of what you’ll be paying. highly recommended for you to experience. 😁✌🏻
